In short, the research of Behdad Dasht Bozorg entails the following:
This project aims to make breast cancer diagnostics faster, more accessible, and more accurate within primary care by integrating artificial intelligence into handheld point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). AI models will enhance image quality, detect and segment breast lesions in real time, and support reliable classification of benign versus malignant findings, even when scans are performed by non-expert clinicians. By shifting high-quality imaging capability to the first point of contact, this approach can reduce unnecessary hospital referrals, ease patient anxiety, and shorten time to diagnosis.
Moreover, the portability and affordability of AI-powered POCUS extends cancer screening to underserved and rural populations with limited access to mammography. This democratization of breast cancer diagnostics ensures that high-quality care is available to all patients, regardless of geographic or socioeconomic barriers.
